SCHOOL ASSEMBLY PROGRAM

"THEFT TALK"™ has two different school presentations which are geared to appropriate developmental levels.

Our goal for grade schools (grades one through five or six) is to make simple associations. This presentation is simple and concrete.

For junior high students, our goal is to develop the same associations but to go a little further and provide some depth of understanding.

Aside from our presentation to the students, and our Teacher Manual, also included with this package is:

Post- Assembly Teacher Lesson Plans

Hallway signs

100 weepfuls with a follow-up message

A survey system to measure the effectiveness of the program

Reports to demonstrate the effectiveness of this program

In regard to the surveys, we first offer a pre-presentation survey. There is also a six-week-later survey and a one-year follow-up survey. For more details about surveys please see Surveys under "Additional Information."

The pre-presentation survey gives us a data base line. It indicates what the actual "theft rate" is in your school. The theft rate is the number of students in your school who admit to having been involved in a theft in the last year. The typical school has a theft rate of 15%, increasing or decreasing depending on the grade level.

In six weeks we administer our six-week-later survey. The six-week-later survey has nothing to do with whether or not we met our goal to reduce incidents of theft. Instead, it measures whether or not we met our objective. We transmitted information to the students during the assembly, and unless they received it we will not meet our goal. In addition, the six-week-later survey provides another source of reinforcement of the material presented.

One year later, "THEFT TALK" will provide another survey to determine if we met our goal. This survey measures: 1) how many students retained the critical information, and 2) the new theft rate. Students who recall the information in the assembly have a far greater chance of not offending than those who do not. Typically, the theft rate will go down to 10 or 11 percent in a given school.
